| Temporary Wearable Home |

The brief for this task was to design a temporary home for the modern-day business traveller, using concepts from a piece of jewellery I designed which acted as a maquette. The challenge was to then translate this into a unique visual language which would inspire the design of this space.

The slideshow below shows my initial exploration with the piece of jewellery I designed to act as a maquette. I began working with materials such as cardboard, old bangles, wool, split pins and feathers. The final piece is made up of three parts. Each end represents the boundaries of the space. The attached wool expands and contracts by connection which acts as a metaphor for temporary home to show flexibility and movement within the space. The feathers and split pins in the middle act as décor but also have an underlying meaning of representing the ‘soft, bright and fuzzy’ feeling one feels when inside their home. The piece acts as a metaphor for the modular home space.

The images below are of my final outcome. The maquette was translated into a unique visual language. Colour, tone, and texture were some elements used from the maquette. Soft materials for the bed, sofas, and rugs to represent the feathers as well as timber and rope to represent the wool in the maquette. The spatial layout was designed to suit the needs of the client.
